THE Chinese votes in Kuala Ampang are crucial to determine BN’s win in Hulu Kelang Gombak during the general election.

Selangor MCA operations centre director Datuk Yip Kum Fook said residents of the Kuala Ampang Chinese New Village need to deliver the votes in order for BN to win in Hulu Kelang.

According to him, over the past five years, the new village has seen many positive changes including upgrading of roads, the market and a covered basketball court.

He said the Chinese community from the village represent 15% of the Chinese voters, which is a large margin.

“I do not see a reason why the Chinese would not vote for Barisan. This is the only new village in the area and we received a few million ringgit to upgrade the area for the people,” said Yip, who is also Gombak MCA chairman.

He said they are planning to upgrade the Chinese temple in the new village if Barisan was given the mandate in Gombak.

“We will also continue to meet the people here at least once a week to help them solve their woes. We believe the candidates must be reachable at all times,” he added.

Yip said this during a 1Malaysia dinner with some 800 residents from the new village.

The event was held to introduce the BN government’s policies and plans for the people.

Also present was Gombak BN chairman Abdul Rahim Kamaruddin who hoped the people could appreciate Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s transformation plan.

Abdul Rahim hopes to turn the Chinese new village into an iconic place for tourists to visit, calling it the Chinatown of Gombak.

During the event, 102 lucky draw prizes were handed out including the grand prizes a LED television and one iPad.

The winner of the LED television Chan Soo Lian, 80, said the win was a welcome surprise.

Chan has lived in the village for more than 50 years and has seen the village’s transition.

For her, Kuala Ampang is a serene and secure neighbourhood and she would like to ensure it remains the same.
